The Daily Dick: A Study in Leadership

"My dear sir, in this world it is not so easy to settle these plain things. I have ever found your plain things the knottiest of all."

The Study: Great leaders, it seems to me, help define the world. Today, we have a wall defined by Pres _rump as "impenetrable," and "great" and "beautiful." Dictionaries define a wall as "a continuous vertical brick or stone structure that encloses or divides." Divides is the operative word here. Great leaders do not seek to divide. Even Melville understood how important simple words like "wall" could tie a nation in knots.
