The Daily Dick: A Study in Leadership

"The White Whale swam before him as the monomaniac incarnation of all those malicious agencies which some deep men feel eating in them, till they are left living on with half a heart and half a lung."

The Study: Leaders should not allow the perception of past hurts to linger. Good leaders should recognize that suffering is a part of the world and move forward with a heart ready to ease the suffering of others - use their power to help, not harm. In the passage above, Melville shows how harboring hatred from the past can cloud a person's ability to lead. Ain't that the truth?!
