The Daily Dick: Musings on the Greatest Novel Ever


"That old Greek, Prometheus, who made men, they say, should have been a blacksmith, and animated them with fire; for what’s made in fire must properly belong to fire; and so hell’s probable."

 

Musing: This quote is a puzzle. Throughout Moby-Dick, fire is associated with passion - madness - darkness. So it follows that anything created out of that element would necessitate a hell. Probably.
